'KOKOPU  PRINCESS'   Hand Caved Jade from New Zealand

This amazing stone was a rejected end cut off from a much larger jade river
float and gifted as a
curiosity. Examples of Kokopu jade
as strongly marked
with rich, dendritic veins such as this are few and far between. Inlaid eyes of
Psilamalane
(gem quality
manganese ore) Dimensions:

Kokopu Princess, Carved NZ Jade
Initial carving was
started early to mid '80s but soon ceased as the complexity became apparent. The promise of a special carving kept the barely started piece next to the bench for 12 years. In a state of solitude and isolation inspiration flared.
Carving resumed and
she was completed in
a single minded project lasting many
long days.
